Personal Statement

I have been playing volleyball since 6th grade, 12 y.o. I learned basics through city volleyball in Surprise AZ and played for middle school 8th grade varsity.

I moved to Massachusetts and started playing for H.S as a freshman. During playoffs I was bumped up to Varsity level.

I was awarded Rookie of the Year Sophomore year H.S and nominated captain for Junior yr. In addition, I was awarded Second Team Allstar voted by coaches.

I started playing for Slam club at power level at age 15 and currently play for them at a National level.

I maintain a 98.4/100 GPA taking honor classes.

To Whom it might concern My name is Sergei Pilipetskii, and I am writing a letter of recommendation for McKenzie Elliott. I am one of the coaches for the 16 girls national team at SLAM Volleyball club in Marlborough. I have played volleyball for over 20 years, and coached girls and boys volleyball for 6 years. The head coach of this team Shannon Kane has over 15 years of coaching experience, and shares the same opinions about McKanzie as myself. I would like to start off by saying that McKenzie is a real joy to coach. Her attitude and learning mindset are amazing. She takes on every challenge with determination to master the skill at a high level. She pushes herself and her teammates to improve their skills. She adds a positive energy to the team and connects well with any player. McKenzie’s positive attitude is always contagious, making others laugh during difficult times. This attitude helps anyone that is having a difficult day. She is a fantastic teammate and player to coach. McKenzie came to try out as middle from one of our lower level power teams. She showed us amazing talent and was quickly selected to be on our Nationals team. Her level of play at tryouts was slow however she showed us enough that we knew that she could easily transition to a fast pace offense. She never struggled, quickly picking up the high pace and excelling at it. Currently she can run a fast paced middle offense and all the plays we throw at her. She can easily do 1s, 3s, slides and back 1s. She really excels at blocking, moving quickly to close the block, push the block, and angle it correctly. She can easily read the setter to block both pins and block backrow attacks. She is easily able to follow her hitter and solo block if needed. She has a high vertical and works hard to make sure that she never relies on just her height. She has amazing power while hitting, and with a good setter connection she will put the ball down close to the 10 foot line. I expect as she continues to work on her athleticism her power will continue to increase. McKenzie never complains if the set is in the wrong place, just doing whatever she can to get the ball over as aggressively as possible. Her passing is at a good level and she can easily adapt to the right side or outside if needed. Overall McKenzie would be an amazing addition to any team. Her coachability and learning mentality is a huge asset. She will adapt quickly to any challenge. On and off the court she brings a huge positive energy to the team. She never complains and tries her best. She is completely focused on volleyball and always works to improve herself.
