Yes, I love volleyball, but I think you need to know me about me than my athletic abilities. My dream is to be a surgeon, I can already imagine the excitement when I see a human heart beating or even the brain without its protective shell. Surgery is not only about healing people but giving some a second chance to treat their bodies better and live their life. This is the most exciting career I could imagine, its going to push me and will put me through lots of heart ache and frustration. My English teacher showed me a quote by John Burroughs, “We are made strong by what we overcome”. One thing I have overcome is my lack of will to strive in academics, I am so much like my dad in this case. My dad struggled to keep his grades up because he did not like school. I have had to overcome this barrier with lots of practice, I enjoy school whether it is a fun day where we talk all hour and socialize or one of the boring ones where we listen to our teacher’s drone on and on until what they say just go in one ear and right out the other. Sports is almost like coming up for breath of air when I am drowning in schoolwork and the pressure of huge tests. I go to practice and whether its basketball, volleyball, or softball it is like I can breathe again. The crack of the bat when you hit a ball, the smack of the volleyball when you hit it, to the sound of the net when you swoosh a shot just calms me and its like there is not a problem left in this world. Sports have always been a refresh button for me, I always walk out from a practice or game happier than when I walked in. I think sports have helped me so much to make it through school, this freshman year I have a 4.0 gpa, I am so proud of myself. I have pushed so hard this year to study and pay attention and all my hard work has paid off, and I just know my family is proud of me. This year has been amazing, my grades are unbelievable, and I have grown so much on the court in volleyball. This, year we have already won a tournament and we have taken two other tough defeats in championship games. Losing those games taught me so much. I always have said “I’d rather play the best team there is and lose than the worst team there is and win”. I say this because I want to be the best and I cannot get better without playing the best and pushing myself to new limits.
