My name is Bethany Wilson. I am a senior at Midland high school where I participate on my high school volleyball and track team. I have been playing multiple sports from a very young age. I started playing volleyball in middle school and I developed a passion for the game. Currently, I play on Five1 team 18u Adidas, based in Clio, Michigan.
Playing volleyball has taught me the importance of trust and communication. As a team you must trust the surrounding players to fulfill what is asked of them. Communication among players helps to fuel the trust, and keep organization on the court. As a middle blocker, communication with my teammates is essential in my role. Not only do I have to identify the opposing hitters and the location of the setter, I also have to communicate with my own setter for offensive schemes and with the back row for defense and cover. I am an asset to my team because I provide a controlled, powerful hit as well as a solid block that allows my defense to be set. As a middle hitter, my passers must trust that I will always put a block up and in return, I must trust that my passers will get the ball up. Through constant communication, I have developed strong leadership skills and an understanding of the game through these exercises.
