I have always been very passionate about the game of volleyball and I am working hard to reach my goal of competing at the college level. Before my grandma Maggie passed away last January, she told me that volleyball had always been her favorite sport to watch me play. This has stuck with me, and through my experiences of losing her, I have truly learned to play with faith over fear. I have developed a mindset to want the ball in my hands on match point, to encourage others even when things aren’t going my team’s way, and to overall just give my all under any circumstance.
Being in the setter position, I lead with poise and confidence. It’s very important to me that my teammates see this confidence and trust me to get them in the best possible position to put a ball away. I spend a lot of time watching film and studying the game. I’m typically first to the gym and the last one to go home. I was a captain on the team last year as a sophomore. I don’t take this role lightly, and I am constantly working to better myself as a leader through reading books and seeking feedback from coaches and peers. This past season, I surpassed 1,000 set assists and won the Giant Pride Award, given to someone who shows exemplary character on the court and in the classroom.
Academically, I would love to major in the sciences, and then continue my schooling to get a medical degree. I just ended my fall semester of my sophomore year, and I have maintained a 4.03 GPA. In school, I also enjoy basketball, softball, student council, band, choir, Target, and WE Day. As an example of the importance of faith in my life, I am working to get a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group started at my school. Outside of school, you can find me spending time with my family or volunteering to play guitar and sing for community events, at church, and at the local nursing homes.
