My name is Lydia Murphy. I am a junior at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri. I have grown up playing sports. My eighth grade year I started playing volleyball. My P.E. coach saw my athletic potential and told me I should try out for the school volleyball team. I made the team and was starting my first year in eighth grade. We had a good season that year only losing one or two games. My ninth grade year I moved to Columbia, MO and started libero for the freshman team and tried out and made a competitive club team (Club CoMo) earning a starting spot at libero. My sophomore year I tried out for the Rock Bridge High School team and played libero on Junior Varsity. I also got called up by the head coach to play Varsity during districts. This year (my junior year) I am starting defensive specialist on Varsity. My team has been ranked as high as 3rd in the state and we finished in the elite 8. This is the farthest any Rock Bridge volleyball team has ever gone. I am now beginning my club season with Club CoMo 17s HOA Gold.
The only sport I have ever wanted to play at the collegiate level is volleyball. It is my dream to play at the Division 1 or 2 level. I would love to major in either sports medicine or nursing and become an athletic trainer or nurse anesthetist.
I believe I have a lot to offer. I am very quick to the ball. People have always been impressed with my strength especially for my size. As a 5'2" athlete people are often amazed with my power and abilities. I believe my strongest area is serve receive. I communicate well with my teammates. I am a quick learner and a hard worker. I enjoy being challenged and would love to be considered for an athletic scholarship.
