My name is Madison McClain. I usually go by Maddy, but will answer to both. I have been involved in sports almost as long as I've been able to walk. My dad started coaching a basketball team when I was four years old just so that I could play. Since then, I have played anything I've had the opportunity to play, including basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball (I was not allowed to play football with the boys, much to my dismay!). I just finished my freshman year of high school and I played on the varsity basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams. I love them all, but volleyball is my passion! I'm EXTREMELY competitive, which pushes me to play my best in any sport. My dad always says, "Give her a ball and she will perform".
My competitiveness not only applies to sports, but to the classroom as well. I strive to have the best grade in all of my classes, which has landed me a 3.86 overall GPA for my freshman year. I know next year I can do better, and I will have a 4.0 my sophomore year. I love animals and hope to be a marine biologist or veterinarian. My mom tells me that I won't be any of these if I don't study hard to get good grades (I hate to admit that she's probably right!). We have three dogs at my house, but I love all animals. I often watch Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel when they have programs about animal rescues and such. These shows make me excited about the possibility of working with animals someday! My mom says I would give every animal in the world a home if they needed it.
Something very exciting happened last weekend! I was playing at a volleyball tournament with my high school team, we finished fourth in the competition, but afterward, we were walking out of the building when a coach for the H2 volleyball team, a very elite competitive team out of St Louis, Mo, came up to me and my parents and asked me to play on their team! Coleman, the coach, said he was very impressed with my skills in all six positions and the leadership that I showed in talking to my teammates throughout the games. I can't wait to get started!!
