Hi, my name is Maddie Andrade and I'm a sophomore at Pinkerton Academy in Derry New Hampshire. I was first introduced to volleyball by my cousin, and my love for volleyball grew from there. I started attending training camps around 6th grade, and my skills have improved since then. My freshman year was my first time trying out for an actual team, and I made JV. Since it was my first year, I didn't know what to expect. The team started off well, but I started to face challenges towards the end of the season. I was one of two freshmen on the team, and the other girls already had a connection, so I was already an outsider. Then everyone became very critical of one another, making the experience very unenjoyable. However, in the face of this adversity, I stayed strong. I tried my hardest at games and practices and proved to my coach that I could perform well on the team even under the intense scrutiny of my older teammates. As a result of this, I have become an athlete who can compete even in less-than-ideal conditions. I believe that this quality of mine allows me to stand out in both athletics and academics. When I faced a rigorous freshman year, I pushed through it and came out in the top 35 students out of 770. With this quality, I want to pursue a career in the medical field, as I fully believe I am capable of it. Playing collegiate volleyball and pursuing a medical career might be challenging, but I wholeheartedly believe that I am capable of doing it because I have proven time and time again that I can stay strong and push through in the face of adversity.
