Hello, my name is Emma Wetzel.
I attend Mahwah High School where I am currently a junior and play on the volleyball team. In addition to being on the school team.
I also play for DIGS volleyball club. During my 13U year at DIGS I realized that I wanted to be a physical therapist or athletic trainer because I would always stretch out my teammates and tape whoever had minor injuries. I knew that I did not want to work at a desk all day and I aspired to work with athletes. I began researching these careers to find out what college path I would need to take.
My goal is to put in the effort and dedication to not only excel in a physical therapy or an athletic training program, but to play volleyball in college as well.
I have worked hard to balance being a student-athlete and I am looking for a good support system through the school and volleyball program to establish me for my future. I was in 8th grade when I first started playing volleyball seriously for the DIGS volleyball club.
DIGS has provided a well-rounded playing environment where I have learned technical skills, made many connections and built life-long friendships. I experienced the basics of volleyball and the importance of hard work. Each year I have grown stronger, gained new insights from the coaches and worked with them on improving what is best for the team and myself. I am very focused and collaborate well with my teammates. I am proud to say I have not missed a practice for high school or club since my freshman year of high school. It is important to me to show my dedication because I always want to be there for the team and show my appreciation for the coaches as best as I can. In college, I want to continue to hone my skills, support my team and establish a rapport with coaches. One thing I love about Club is the way we push each other to do well, not only athletically but academically as well. As a team, we always strive to help each other with whatever skills we need, even if that means coming to practice early, staying late or helping outside of practices. Academically, I can recall times that I have called or texted a friend to help me with my homework and studies. I really try to do the best I can at school with developing great teacher and peer relationships. I always self-advocate and come to extra help hours if needed. I am a diligent worker and always find time for both school and volleyball. I am a very organized person which helps keep track of my practices and what I have going on at school. I am involved with activities at school but balance responsibilities. I believe that I am different from other recruits because of how important relationships and dedication are to me. Dedication is key and is essential for any team or relationship. I want to put the time and effort into making the season and school year as best as I possibly can. I have established strong communication with my teammates as well as coaches and I will continue that well beyond graduation and throughout my life.
I want to be there for my teammates and whatever my coach needs me to do. I want to attend a school that will support me like I will put in the effort and time to support them.
