I was introduced to volleyball during 6th grade gym class and haven’t stopped playing since. The reason why I fell in love with this sport, is not just because it is incredibly fun, but because it made me push myself to become a stronger, smarter player and an even stronger teammate.
As a sophomore, I became the Varsity stating outside hitter and went on to earn the Offensive Player of the Year Award. The challenge of "playing up” at this level, with an older and more experienced team, was transforming. Volleyball is truly a team sport, something I value wholeheartedly, knowing that they’ve got my back, but also, that I’ve got theirs.
At the end of high school season I began the travel/club season with the Garden State Attack (16 Elite). After a solid start I went out in January 2020 for shoulder surgery. Mentally, this injury furthered a grit and determination for a quick and full recovery.
Covid 19 has changed everything, but I’m an optimist, and discovered other strengths, such as adaptability and perseverance. Through rehab/physical therapy in protective gear, to Zoom workouts and daily pick up beach volleyball, to training with a former college coach, I continue to work hard to stay in shape and sharpen my skills during New Jersey lockdown.
I believe in a well-rounded education. If you look at my transcript you will see that each year I’ve grown in the classroom as a student athlete. This year, with the Covid hybrid schedule, I’ve figured out a successful classroom/virtual balance, leading to consistent A’s and B’s. My GPA for the Semester 1 was 3.65, bringing up the average to 2.85.
I am looking to play the highest level of college volleyball possible. Although I love being an outside hitter, I’m working to gain libero experience and develop those skills as well. I am asking for the opportunity to show coaches that when faced with a challenge, I can learn from and master it. A highly coachable player with a willingness to go that extra mile, who continues to show growth, fortitude and positive energy through injury and adversity, and a committed and loyal team member is who I am.
