I have been playing sports since I was 3 years old, but I started playing volleyball when I was in 6th grade. I went to a mini camp to learn about playing the sport and fell in love with it right away. The first team that I played on had me as a setter, then half way through the season I was moved to outside hitter. In the middle of 7th grade, I changed school to the school I attend now due to our family moving. In my 8th grade year on JV, I was moved to a middle hitter and in my last year in 11th grade, I was asked to play middle hitter, outside hitter and backup setter. I have learned that although I love playing middle hitter, I have to do what is best for my team and since I have the skill set to play all three positions and back row, I will always do what the team needs of me. I am a three-sport scholar athlete and I also fill this same role in all three sports. I was taught at an early age to be a well-rounded athlete and not just only concentrate on one aspect of the game but to understand the whole game. This summer, I had the opportunity to play in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, where I was chosen as a middle hitter but ended up playing both middle and right-side hitter again because this is what the team needed.
I have learned through sports how to be a leader as well as how to manage my time. At various times of the year, I am playing season ball as well as two travel sports, maintaining my grades, do volunteer work, and altar serve at church. I have managed this while having a reading problem, in third grade I was diagnosed with a visual tracking problem with my eyes. I do well with schoolwork but because of this I am not a good test taker. Despite this, I am able to maintain my grades, be on the honor roll every semester and on National Honor Society.
My goals for beyond high school are to earn my degree in Physical Therapy and would like to be able to coach.
