Annie Anderson '20 Recruiting Profile

Learning to prioritize and manage my schedule has revealed a lot about my passion for volleyball. I am a self-considered type A personality meaning I am competitive, ambitious, and generally high energy.  This leads me to be actively involved in many activities I care strongly about, but in the past, I have struggled balancing them all.  I have always considered myself a student before an athlete; but second to academics I found myself placing volleyball. In realizing that volleyball was something I strongly want to pursue I learned to place my effort into the sport and make time for it because I hold it important. Ultimately, I look at the opportunity of playing collegiate volleyball as an additional bonus to continuing my academic career. 

My biggest obstacle has been complacency because most of my accomplishments are powered by my internal drive. I do my best when surrounded by like minded people with similar motives/goals because it adds a competitive atmosphere, but currently I do not find myself in that setting.  So to combat complacency I am pushing myself to compete with my best.  I strive to put effort into every task at hand with the mindset, "why do something half way if it is worth doing?" I can comfortably take a leadership position if/when needed, but am also comfortable under leadership of someone with the same end goal in mind. I have had experience leading both in the sport of volleyball and also through other organizations (i.e. NJROTC, HOSA, and SGA.)
