As a multiple sport athlete all my life, I have learned many things about myself and others. Growing up, I played soccer, softball, basketball, and swimming, but never volleyball. I was a late starter, joining in 7th grade on a whim. I soon realized quickly that it was my true passion. Soccer and basketball were my main sports when I was younger, and I think that’s the main part of why I’m able to connect so easily with volleyball now. They were team sports, where you had to rely on your teamwork and have full trust and confidence in them. So, when I joined volleyball, I had a very good understanding of what being a team was like. I depend on them, likewise how they depend on me. Even though we all play very different parts and roles, we must do it all together to blend and work as one. I have also been on the varsity track team, and contrary to beliefs, track is a very team-based sport. Everyone has their different events, and different priorities, but it builds off friendship, teamwork, support, and encouragement. I participate in events including high jump, long jump, pole-vault and hurdles, and believe they all help me cross-train for volleyball. I lettered my freshman year, and I went to districts the past three years for high jump. Along with that, I lettered freshman, sophomore, and junior year for volleyball; and I was awarded the CVC conference player of the week the past two seasons, honorable mention in CVC sophomore year, and first team all-conference this past season.
Even though I started club my 13’s year, my passion for volleyball has only grown in the years. While playing school and club, I also do a summer sandbox/beach 4’s league with my friends. Volleyball has just become such a huge part of my life, where I want to continue to play year-round and at a collegiate level. Volleyball is such a massive part of me, and why I want to pursue it in college and continue playing while working on pursuing a degree in Nursing.
