When I was 10, I went to a high school volleyball game and saw the libero dive across the court and land on her hip to save a ball. At that moment I told myself, "That's what I want to do!" and that's when I fell in love with the game. Still today, I can tell you that I love volleyball now just as much as I did then. There have been many obstacles I've overcome to get where I am today. I feel that I grew the most as a student-athlete last season, my junior year of volleyball, when a few seniors gave up on the team and had horrible attitudes on the court. I started to see our team fall apart and as the team captain, in a rewarding and fulfilling position, it was hard to watch so many talented girls throw away their last season of volleyball. Looking back, I realize that I grew so much physically and mentally. I learned that I had to set a good example for the team and push myself in ways I didn't know I could. Gearing up for my senior year, I know what it will take to set a good example and lead our team to state.
Given the opportunity to play many different sports, I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and leadership. I'm looking for a school that will be a good fit for me athletically and academically. I believe that I not only have the talent to play on a college team, but I have the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make a great impact on a collegiate volleyball program. I know I have what it takes to be an effective leader and be a supportive teammate on and off the court.
