Hi I'm Brigid Scanlon, I'm a Junior at Gwyned Mercy High School. I play Volleyball and Softball at the Varsity level and even played basketball for 2 years until the commitment became too hard to manage all 3 sports. I'm passionate about working hard and constantly look to grow in both in my athletics and in my academic life.
I'll tell you a story about myself, every year my father takes us on hike thru a variety of different trails. About a year ago my father took myself and my sister on a hike and most years they are fun and tourist type journeys. This time he said he was going to challenge us and boy diid he ever. He took us on a "short" 10 mile hike. It was thru mountains, low ranges and then back thru a river bed of huge rocks. It was the longest I have ever hiked and was hardest. We were tested with weather elements, snakes, and the terrain. We were taught how to climb but most importantly focus when we got tired and challenged. At the end I thought I was going to die and we were exhausted. As we were driving back we talked about the journey and how we had so many amazing little and different experiences. I was so amazed at how we all worked so hard together, had the same goal, but had a slightly different experience while enjoying the emotional roll a coaster together.
Its the journey that matters both the hard and the good trials we had together and that experience taught me that is what sports to me. There are tough times and there are amazing times especially when you win but its the journey with each other that makes all this amazing.
