People always compliment me on my energy, enthusiasm, and smile when I’m playing sports. That’s because absolutely I love playing! The discipline I’ve learned from coaches and my parents helped me focus while in practice and matches. This helped build my confidence and IQ of the game. All this combined makes it easier to love playing!
I have a twin brother. He’s 6’2” and I’m 5’5”. My two older brothers are also twins. I feel this has pushed me to work harder in everything I do because I have always had to compete against them. We all played sports from very young age. I always had someone to practice and train with at home.
I started playing volleyball when I was in 5th grade. Over the years, I learned the fundamental skills needed that I still carry with me today. Being part of many teams has allowed me to develop skills useful as both a player and a student. Over the past 7 years, volleyball has taught me the values and importance of commitment, teamwork, time management, and a strong work ethic.
I learned many things about myself as a person and as an athlete while playing sports. I learned what it means to make certain sacrifices and commitments to help better myself as an athlete or the team on which I’m playing. I learned how to eat and train to be a healthier athlete. There were times when I would play a different position than I was comfortable with because the team needed me to. I learned that other people's negative opinions of me shouldn’t and won’t influence the way I play or act. The positive reinforcement I get from my coaches and teammates help drive my motivation and grow my love for the sport.
My goals for high school are to maintain distinguished honor roll while still being part of Student Council, National Honor Society, Mini-THON, and Model United Nations. For volleyball, it is to play at the varsity level for all four years. As a junior, I want to be a captain for my team and mentor the underclassmen. My goals for college are to study at a high academic university and play NCAA volleyball. I am very interested in majoring in the STEM field. Science and math have always been my strengths and I want to use those strengths for my future career. Balancing academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities is something that I’m used to and am confident that I can continue to maintain that balance in college.
My experiences with sports and a big family, along with my adaptability, communication skills, and leadership, would make me a great addition to any college roster.
