My name is Lyla Kershner and just as Lindsey Berg explains, you must know your dreams. I am a 5’4”, 120 lb. libero (also not the tallest or skinniest), and my dream is to play volleyball for an NCAA I Women’s College team! One of my greatest strengths is believing that I can do anything. It takes passion, hard work, and dedication to accomplish your goals and to have fun while getting there. I work hard in my academics and put the same amount of hard work into my extracurricular activities. I have been fortunate to continue my volleyball season by playing winter club ball for a team called Anthracite Attack. To date, we have won three, 1^st place awards, and two, 2^nd place awards at our volleyball tournaments. Since playing volleyball 3 years ago, I have grown tremendously as a captain, player, libero, teammate, and individual. My coaches have played a big part in my growth and taught me to be accountable, committed, practice hard, and, most importantly, push myself further than I thought I was capable. It is through volleyball that I have learned to be persistent, and competitive, and that a little bit of humility pays off. You cannot get slowed down by nay-sayers or listen to anyone who doesn’t believe in you. I hope to use these lessons, along with the support of my parents and family in my journey to becoming an NCAA I Women’s College volleyball player and in preparing for my future healthcare career.
