As an athlete you may have to make difficult decisions as to what sports you want to pursue and what sports you will have to leave behind. When I started playing volleyball freshman year of high school I knew it was the sport I wanted to spend all of my time playing. Since then I have been training hard in order to catch up to the skill level of most of my peers who have been playing for several years longer. This means staying after practice to work with my coaches individually, frequently asking questions of my coaches, and continuously practicing skills on my own all with the mindset to try to improve every time I play. Every practice I am ready to play at my highest level and I leave all I have out on the court. Through volleyball I have come to realize what a team can do if they have the same goals in mind. If every player on your team has high energy and the mentality that the ball should not touch the floor, it is very rewarding to be a part of. Individually, I love the feeling that I have when competing on the court. I am the type of player that wants the ball during a very close scoring game. Additionally, leadership is a role that I possess. At school, I am a part of the Leadership Academy that takes place throughout the school year. One of the tasks we do is give the incoming freshmen tours of the school, tell them what to prepare for and try to steer them in the right direction to achieve success during their high school career. I carry this trait on the court by always encouraging my teammates to work hard. I never make excuses for my failures. Instead, I figure out what I can do to better my game.
Academically, my parents have always taught me that school is very important. One thing that sets me apart from other student athletes is that I strive to always be on task with the workload at hand. If I do not understand what I am being taught, I do not hesitate to ask my teacher for extra help even if that means staying after school. This way of thinking has shaped me to be a very diligent worker that is always striving for high academic success. In addition, I have not decided what major I want to go into, but I enjoy studying psychology. I am truly devoted to this game and I am looking for a college that challenges me academically and athletically and will push me to become the best version of myself. Through hard work and focus, I am looking forward to seeing what the next chapter of my life brings!
