Personal Statement

I am a hard working individual and am self motivated.  I excel at many different sports because I not only enjoy the competition but also the work in practice that is required to perform my best.  I have been the starting setter on every team that I have played on in the past 3 seasons but I also excel as a right-side and left side attacker.  My preferred position is setter as I feel it is the most important role on the team and my leadership skills and ability to see the game and control the play is very good for my age.  I thrive with the ball in my hand and the pressure that comes from having my teammates look up to me.  I have been voted team captain on two of my teams and assistant captain on the other one.  I am a well rounded athlete and recently made the varsity basketball team as a grade 9 student in my 5A school (highest division in Saskatchewan, Canada).  I am a good listener, learner and am a very humble person.  I began speed swimming at an early age as a way for me to remain active, but have excelled in this sport as well and have many Provincial Gold medals and currently hold 7 Provincial Records in Summer speed swimming (See Events tab).  I work very hard at my school work and want to attend a school that has a really good reputation for academics and would be very excited if i was able to play sports at the collegiate level as well.  I am well respected by my teammates and peers for my attitude, leadership, work ethic and kindness.   As competitive as i am, I have really enjoyed getting to know some of my competitors from other teams and swim clubs and consider many of them good friends even though many of them live hundreds of kms away.

  • this was a camp in Calgary for 16U kids. There were 60 kids in total and i was among one of the only 13 year olds at this camp. This was a 6 day camp where i got to meet many high profile coaches and instructors. I repeatedly received many compliments from all of the coaches and the organizers as to my abilities, my work ethic and my leadership skill. At the end of the day they gave out a shirt to 2-3 participants and at the end of the camp they awarded 1 shirt to the person that stood out consistently throughout the entire week. I was awarded this shirt!

As a 13 year old being selected i did extremely well and at the end of each session they gave out 3 "awards" (5 session in total). I was the recipient of 2 awards one for "heart and hustle" and one was for "vocal leader". I was very proud of this as no other person received two awards. Ultimately I was not selected as the top 2 however.
