Hello!
My name is Margaret (Meg) Van Heest, and I have been playing volleyball for three years. I started playing in 7th grade and fell in love with the sport immediately. I am primarily a middle hitter/blocker, but I am a strong all around player and am versatile in every position. I am a team player and I love cheering on and encouraging my teammates, I listen well to coaches’ instructions, and I love competing. I am a powerful hitter and blocker and have great court awareness, I have quick reactions on defense, and I am a consistent server. Because of all of these values and skills, I have been a starter for every year that I have played and every team I have played on. I also won the award of all-tournament player in my school’s conference tournament championship this year.
As well as being a skilled volleyball player, I am also talented in swimming and basketball. I have won multiple city championships in swimming events, and was a two year starter on my middle school basketball team. I also enjoy being active and am intrinsically motivated to do daily strengthening workouts, as well as running, swimming, and stretching.
I am also very dedicated academically. I am in all honors classes this year and have high A’s in all of them, scoring a 5.0/4.0 GPA. I have won many awards in school, including “summa cum laude” on the National Latin Exam two years in a row. I am taking AP classes next school year (sophomore year). I especially have a passion for science, specifically biology.
Outside of volleyball and school, I lead music at my youth group, I am in the yearbook club at my school, and I play multiple instruments, including the guitar, ukulele, and piano. I give swim lessons to younger kids during the summer, I give volleyball clinics for younger kids at my school, and I babysit kids from multiple families. As the oldest of six children in my family, I am used to being a team player and helping others.
My goal for the future is to earn a scholarship to play volleyball in college, where I hope to study biology in order to pursue a career as a pediatric dietician or a genetic counselor.
