My name is Samantha Rickert and when I was young I was a gymnast. I thought I had a passion for gymnastics until the first time I walked onto a volleyball court. Who knew that I would find my passion on a 18 meter by 9 meter area, when all of my athletic training had been in a sizable airport hanger turned gymnastics facility? But, I began my volleyball career at the age of 9, and I have not looked back on any of the sports I left behind.
Thanks to a strong support system, I have been able to play on top volleyball teams and have undergone excellent training. I know that all college-bound athletes are strong, dedicated and hard working, so for me to boast these same qualities would be futile. What I can boast is loyalty and leadership. As a starting setter, I lead my team with fairness, humor, and of course, by setting a great example both on and off the court. I treat all people in the context of the Golden Rule, and all of my teachers, coaches and friends know that I am a loyal participant and I never let anyone down. I come from a strong family dynamic, where good choices are always celebrated and mistakes are too! I have a strong moral compass that is guided by both my parents and friends at my church. I value education and know that selecting the right college is vital to my happiness and overall success. I also know that volleyball has to be a part of my college experience, because playing on a volleyball team gives me great joy!
I will greatly contribute to the right team as a leader, a skilled setter, and as a student athlete that any college dean would be proud of! I am different from many other recruits because I am both a leader and a team player. I have thick skin, but am the first to admit my failings. I have an elevated sense of humor which helps conquer many of life's tribulations, and I am thankful for everything I have and have experienced. This sense of appreciation is something that I think many young people lack today. I would be grateful to any recruiter that considers me, as I am fully aware of what a competitive world we live in. Thank you for the opportunity to tell you about myself!
