From the moment I went to my first volleyball camp in 4th grade, I was hooked. Prior to that, I was a competitive swimmer, and I dreaded practice. Once I switched sports, I never looked back. Practice and tournaments are so exhilarating and never get old.
I remember telling my mom after that first camp that my goal was to be a varsity player for Lake Travis High School. Lake Travis is a very competitive 6A school.
My freshman year I made the JV team, and we won districts. My sophomore year, I was the starting Libero and, again, we won districts. At the banquet, I was honored to receive “Defensive Specialist of the Year”. My junior year my 4th grade dream came true. I now play for the varsity team at Lake Travis.
My club experience began with 11U. I received the “Player of the Year” award. That set a drive in me to continue to learn and improve every season.
My goal has grown from becoming a varsity player to becoming a college player. Being on a college team and having the volleyball “family” with me throughout my college career means more to me than I can express.
Thank you for considering me for your program.
Look what Coach Scott Mayhew had to share...
This letter of recommendation is for Alexa Earle, whom I have coached on Austin Performance 16 Baden team for the 2021-2022 club season. I have been a successful DI and DIII coach and coached club volleyball for 36 years.
Alexa is an outstanding student with a 98.16 GPA at a very competitive high school. Her intelligence is a great asset in her position - she is able to scout and remember attacker and server tendencies as well as any player I have ever coached.
She has played libero on her team for the entire season and many seasons in the past. She is a true libero and not just a converted outside attacker. She is "in charge" of everything our back row players do.
She is the best serving libero I have ever coached. She can serve a target on a flat or high and deep trajectory and serve short deceptively. Alexa is an excellent defender because of her technical skill, her ability to read and her extreme effort level. She plays left back in our system, but she can play middle back just as well.
Alexa is our best receiver, averaging about 2.4 on a 3-point scale. She covers about half the court, leaving the other half to two other players. Her consistent service reception is a major factor in the success we have had. She handles setting when our setter digs the first ball, and she is very accurate with her platform.
Her non-volleyball qualifications are what sets her apart from the other liberos I have coached. Alexa plays with an extremely high work ethic. She thinks there is no serve she can't pass and no attack she can't dig. Her effort level in practice is just as high as in matches.
Her best quality from my perspective is that her mindset allows to keep improving. She has gotten better throughout this season. Alexa will continue to improve throughout college volleyball because she comes to every practice with a strong desire to learn.
