“You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.” -Michael Jordan
This quotation from Michael Jordan has always inspired me to set high expectations for myself and to achieve my goals while encouraging others and being a leader on the court.
Volleyball has always been my sanctuary. My favorite thing about playing volleyball is the support I get from my coaches and teammates. I love being a setter because I get to be a leader on the court and assist my hitters in creating a winning edge for my team. I feel the setter position is a very humble position; we don’t always receive the recognition, but we know we are an essential part of the team’s success. I thrive playing in high pressure situations and always want to be the one who helps the team in winning that last point.
My goal is to continue playing volleyball in college because I want to continue the camaraderie of being on a team and gaining more knowledge and skills that can only be learned from high level game situations and hours spent practicing and perfecting my position.
After college my goal is to attend medical school to become an anesthesiologist. I believe the experience and discipline gained from being a college athlete will not only help me succeed in medical school but will also prepare me for a career where being part of a team is essential to successful patient care.
