Volleyball had been a huge part of my life for a while now. In addition to being a starting player for all my seasons, being a part of so many different teams has allowed to me to make so many new friendships and created a whole new appreciation for the sport. My first year of club volleyball was in 2019 competing in the regional U16 tournaments. Club opened my eyes to a whole new level of volleyball and it became a much bigger part of my life. This year, playing as the starting outside hitter on my school team, was an incredible experience. Being able to be a part of the team that got 3rd best in the state was incredible. Now, as I near my senior year of high school, volleyball is part of who I am and what I hope to be part of my future self.
I have always cared about my education, whether it be through taking honors classes or ensuring my grades, I always try to put the extra effort in. This year, in my junior year, I started attending Burlington’s Technical Center. I applied to a program, The Health Sciences Academy, which was relatively selective and I got accepted. As I progressed through the year with these college classes and clinical experience in a hospital, I also got a better understanding of what I wanted in my future. I want to pursue a career in the medical field and I want to continue my education until I can find the future I imagine.
In addition to school and volleyball, family is super important to me. I snowboard with my family in the winters and we love to mountain bike together in the spring. With this. I also play as a starting catcher on my schools varsity softball team. Being so active has made me happier, healthier, and created so many new friendships and bonds, similar to volleyball.
Volleyball has helped me become who I am today. It has made me a leader, both on and off the court. It has made me more empathetic for those I play with and those I don’t. I recently suffered and ACL and double meniscus injury which resulted in a loss of my senior school season along with my club season. I am rehabbing and plan to come back stronger than ever. I unfortunately was not able to get footage of my improved skills before my injury, but I will prove myself time and time again when I get back to playing.
I find myself always being one of the most hardworking players on every team I am on, as well as one of the most encouraging and positive. I work hard, I respect my teammates and coaches, and I am truly who I want to be on the court. Though I am not the tallest hitter you will find, I make up for it in hard work in practice, in games, outside of the court, and even with my schoolwork. Volleyball makes me who I am.
