Volleyball is more than just a sport to me. I have played this sport since I was in the fourth grade. Now, I am a senior which would make a total of nine years playing elementary through high school volleyball.
In the year of 2020, I was in a terrible golf cart accident involving a truck hitting my side of the cart. The aftermath of the accident caused me to be medflighted to Duke Hospital. Surgery was needed immediately with both legs. In my right leg, a titanium rod from my hip to my knee was placed because I broke my femur in four places. While in my left leg, a metal knee cap replacement was insisted on because my knee cap had been shattered. This caused a major setback in my volleyball career.
Many months of physical therapy was a challenge. After I was discharged from Duke, my legs were wrapped up like a mummy and unable to work on their own. I looked as if I were a toddler learning how to use my legs for the first time. Most days I lay in bed and thought of only one thing. All I wanted for myself was to play volleyball. As soon as I completed my physical therapy, I was overjoyed to get back on the court. I continue to work hard at every practice and every game nonstop. Likewise, I continue to tell myself that I am not a quitter, and that I can push through any obstacle given to me. I would love to continue playing volleyball in college.
My story is not a story you hear everyday. Although, it is a story of a girl who did whatever possible to continue her life as a volleyball player no matter the cost. At times it did not look possible to continue the sport, that never stopped me becoming the player I am today. With great sportsmanship, a competitive mindset, and good work ethic; I have much to offer. And I believe I have the talent to get me where I want to be.
