My name is Shylah Totten. I have played multiple sports growing up, but I found my passion when I found volleyball. I have been playing travel volleyball for the past four years as a middle blocker/hitter and I played the position of outside hitter for my high school team for the past two years. The volleyball court continues to be my happy place but more importantly, the game has taught me on and off-court skills such as adaptability, teamwork, critical thinking and perseverance.
I would love to have the opportunity to play college volleyball while pursuing my degree in Criminology. I currently take honors and AP classes in all core subjects while maintaining a high GPA. I feel confident that I can continue to find a balance of playing the sport that I love while doing well academically in college.
Both my parents received their graduate degrees and my father played football at a D1 college. They both stress the importance of pursuing higher education and having a strong work ethic. It has instilled in me the drive to work hard to take my academics and volleyball game to the next level.
