McKira Harris '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is McKira Harris but you can call me Kira. I have been playing volleyball for about 7 years, and I have grown to love it more each year. I love the team atmosphere, support, communication, versatility and agility of the sport. I'm always working mentally and physically to grow and give back to the sport. I'd be a great addition to your team because I am friendly, considerate, hardworking and encouraging. I appreciate honest feedback and enjoy working with others to be and do better (whether it be coaches, teachers or teammates).  

I put my grades before everything because my academic success is extremely important to me. My favorite subjects are English and Math. I know these are going to be vital in my future in the medical field. My family has been very encouraging of my goals and have worked with me to learn more about the field of sports medicine. When I suffered an ACL injury in April 2022, the rehab was a challenge both mentally, emotionally and physically. It made me stronger and the experience taught me humility but also made me realize how much I really love playing. 

I'm very outgoing and have spent the last 2 years working to teach Volleyball and Soccer to toddlers or less experienced players. During the summer, I work at pools throughout the area as a certified lifeguard. I love working with kids and helping other people. I try to use my experience and the experiences of others to impact my community through teaching, communication and volunteering.

I want to go to a college that challenges me in a balanced way but also has support for the times I may need help. What makes me different from others is my drive, focus and determination. When I set my mind to something, I lock in and get it done. I use disappointment or failure as a motivator.  Playing college volleyball will allow me an opportunity to combine all of the things I e worked towards over the years at a higher level.
