Hi Coach, my name is Marianna Brooks. I am a member of the Class of 2023. I attend Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, VA, home of the YellowJackets. My passion for playing volleyball increased while meeting new players while going through the pandemic volleying for the win.
At the age of 3, my parents noticed my eye hand coordination with throwing and catching a ball and my eagerness to jump. I became interested in playing volleyball after enrolling in summer camps hosted by NVVA Volleyball Club and attending clinics at George Mason University. I have enjoyed playing volleyball at my former middle school, my current high school, and the Manassas Boys and Girls Club with aspirations of playing volleyball in college. Playing at the collegiate level will give me the opportunity to learn valuable life lessons, build quality character traits, and build lasting friendships.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to be able to connect with coaches in order to be considered as the next student-athlete for their volleyball team and program. Character counts and to know me you will admire my humility, perseverance, kindness, and dedication to my family, community, athletics, and academics. I am up for the challenge on and off the court. Living through a pandemic has inspired me to become someone that coaches can count on to 1) block with impact, 2) back-up my teammates when help is needed 3) move my feet and cover the floor and 4) serve with impact to score an Ace. Academics count! I am an OPHS Scholar Athlete (3.0 or higher). I received my Academic Letter for the 2020-2021 school year.
What is unique about me that coaches should consider?
JUMPING ABILITY
For my YellowJackets, I have an amazing ability to be able to jump and block at the net as an Outside and Right Side. This ability is unique that it creates aggressive and powerful, unexpected blocks at the net causing my opponents to wonder, “How can she jump like that under 6’0 tall?”
PRESENCE on the FLOOR
My presence on the floor causes my teammates to play harder and smarter by increasing effort, decreasing errors, and impacting our team’s ability to score. My presence on the floor limits our opponent’s ability to score kills, spikes, and decreases their ability to block at the net. My presence on the floor allowed me to earn the Coach’s Award Fall 2019 and earn the title Coach’s All-Around Designated Player 2020-2021 Season.
