My name is Jessica Cleveland, an overall committed student-athlete that plays Libero/DS. I will be in the graduating class of 2021. I have played volleyball for five years, which I absolutely love, and I have played travel soccer for six years prior before I made my switch to the game of volleyball. My journey to falling in love with the sport began when I attended the practices and tournaments my older sister played in, therefore my passion continued to grow for the game. In 7th grade, I was selected to the middle school team and won the libero position and have played that throughout my career. I am a three year high school varsity letter winner and starting libero, and I also play in one of the toughest high school regions in the state of Virginia. I know what it takes on and off the court to play against, and be successful against, strong talented competition. This year as a junior, I was named to: first team all district, first team all area and second team all region, and an all-academic award (for all three years).
I know the importance of being a versatile, well-rounded player especially when it comes to team injuries and illness. I have experience in setting and playing right side. Also, I know the importance of year round physical and mental training on and off the court. Six years ago, I began off season training and in season conditioning with a personal trainer at FASST Sports Performance Training. The combination of volleyball practice and matches, as well as off the court training has allowed me to be open to positive constructive criticism, pushing me to improve my overall game and self confidence. I believe one cannot be their best without the help of their teammates, and those individuals that you surround yourself.
I am searching for the best blend of high level volleyball and academic excellence. I’m an Honors College Dual Enrolled student-athlete, and I maintain a 4.0 grade point average while being highly involved in leadership positions at my high school. I hold the position of historian for my junior class, the secretary of the Interact Club, member of the National Honor Society and on the prom committee. I am also a varsity letter winner in high school soccer. I love to compete, pushing myself and my teammates to be the best all around student-athletes we can be. If you are looking for a dedicated student athlete that understands commitment, hard work and has a strong work ethic on and off the court and wants to make a positive impact on and off the court at the college or university setting, I am that person.
