Although I may be newer to the sport of volleyball, I am not new to athletics. Starting gymnastics at the age of 4 taught me the importance of setting goals, teamwork, perseverance, and both physical and mental strength. However, when I ended my competitive gymnastics career at age 11, I knew that my passion for sports would continue just in a different capacity.
I have overcome obstacles in every sport I have participated in, playing with broken arms to sprained ankles. I have learned to listen to my body and trust what it tells me. I have, also, learned to work with coaches and be the athlete they need for the team. I pride myself on being coachable. I was one of the youngest athletes on my competitive gymnastics team yet my coaches considered me the team leader. That trait continued when I played on my high school JV volleyball team. Every practice I walk onto the court knowing I will give it my all and strive to be the best version of myself.
Through my athletic endeavors I have realized that there will be times when I am disappointed. I know that those disappointments do not need to discourage me or define me. I do not focus long on negativity. I believe that it is only a moment, and we can turn every situation into a positive one.
I have been called a quiet competitor. I am very good at keeping my emotions in check and not letting them overtake me and affect my play. My coaches have used that to their advantage…I bring a calmness to the team that helps to keep situations from becoming frenzied or out of control. Please do not mistake my quietness for meekness. I am driven, yet humble and I will get the job done in a way that highlights the team.
Not only am I committed on the court but I am with all of my other pastimes, too. I am looking to attend a college that fits my wants for the future and challenges me both on the volleyball court and in the classroom. I hope to fulfill my dream while being a good leader, teammate, and community member.
