I’m Cora Schalow, and I am a fifteen-year-old setter and defensive specialist from Germantown, Wisconsin. I started playing volleyball in fifth grade at the age of ten. My first club volleyball experience was with G-Force VBC in eighth grade. As a club and team, G-Force taught me how to be a team player and they helped strengthen my volleyball IQ. When it came time to transition from middle school to high school volleyball, I really started to get serious about the sport. I signed up for every camp and scrimmage possible so that my skills would improve. I wanted to become a better, well rounded player.
During my two years at Eclipse VBC, I noticed a difference in my playing and my mindset. I became more confident in my abilities after I noticed my enhancements, and became a team leader. My biggest accomplishment in my club career was during a tournament at Whitewater College, we won first in the Gold Bracket. Seeing all the hard work my team & I put into those games made me realize I wanted to play college ball. I now compete with Adversity Wisconsin VBC. I was personally invited to compete with the team at AAU Junior Nationals, in June 2021. I am looking forward to this amazing opportunity and experience! I also play for my high school team, the Germantown Warhawks. I can’t wait for the upcoming season!
Prior to playing volleyball, I played basketball as a shooting guard for four years. I currently run track and have been since fifth grade, as well as throwing shot put and discus. I was also a Girl Scout for 9 years and attended St. Boniface Catholic School. Both of these experiences gave me many opportunities to volunteer for multiple charitable and educational causes. These experiences allowed me to help on a personal level and realize the importance in helping my community.
I am a hard-working athlete and student, that strives to improve my abilities in all aspects. I don’t give up when times get tough, I push through and try to make every situation better. Throughout high school and now as a rising junior, I have maintained my academic standards. Even during COVID-19 and the change in learning formats, I have maintained being a successful student and athlete. I have chosen the major of Marine Biology. I really enjoy science and hands on learning. I look forward to my college experience and what paths it will lead me on.
