I am really proud that I have been playing volleyball since I was 7 years old at the YMCA level and 9 years old at a Club level. I love the sport as much now as when I started! This club season I’ve had the opportunity to continue to grow my skills but also develop strong leadership. We had been having issues throughout the season. I talked to my whole team to see how they felt and pulled all of that information together to talk to my coach. We hadn't won a medal the whole season and I truly believe it was because we were not playing as a team. The first tournament after talking with my coach and having a team meeting we ended up winning the whole tournament against some very competitive teams. I was really happy about the outcome because we supported each other as a team!
As a freshman volleyball player this year, I made the JV team and suited up for every Varsity game. I played in about half of the Varsity games including both of our playoff matches this year. Playing for Superior High School also gives me exposure to a lot of strong volleyball teams. We play both WI and MN teams throughout the season due to our northern location and then get seeded into the WI playoffs at the end of the season. I’ve learned a lot by observing and competing against other strong Varsity players across the region. One other thing that I am proud of from Freshman year was that I got a letter to go to a prospect camp from a D1 college, I went and I feel like I learned so much. I would love to do more of them in the future if I got the chance to do so.
I’ve been a Peer Leader in 5th and 8th grade at my elementary and middle schools. I really enjoyed helping out my peers and the younger students. I plan to apply to this program again in my junior year. I have always worked hard to keep a 3.7-4.0 GPA. I think that says a lot about a person’s character and the traits they value. In college I would also be committed to maintaining these types of grades and meeting the goals I put out for myself. I am also part of Pledgemakers at SHS, that is when you take the pledge to be drug/alcohol free for your high school career.
I am also in a DECA marketing program at Superior High School. This winter I was one point away from qualifying for state with my presentation. This club has been very helpful for me. I feel more confident to talk to others that I don't know about new topics and things that I have just learned. I also joined the JV soccer team this fall to cross-train my body for the fall volleyball season. In college I want to major in Physical Therapy, an Athletic Trainer is also an option for me.
This summer I am looking forward to playing volleyball in a summer league with next year’s Varsity team. I plan to attend 3 volleyball camps as well as participate in the Bigger Faster Stronger weight training program my school offers. I'll be busy!
I'm really excited to see what my future brings and how volleyball will be a part of it!
