Personal Statement

Hi Coaches,

I am Emma Vertiz and I am in the 2023 class at Clovis East High School located in Clovis, CA. I am currently a 2 sport athlete in water polo and swim. I am looking to continue my education and earn a degree in Business Management, while also having the opportunity to play water polo at the collegiate level. It is something I have put my mind towards since I started playing water polo competitively in the 6th grade.

Here are some of my accomplishments from this past season:

  • - 4 year Varsity letter (3 as a starter)
  • - Team Captain (Junior & Senior seasons)
  • - 2021 Clovis East Offensive Player of The Year (Junior)
  • - 2022 D1 Central Section Jim Coiner recipient Girls (Senior)
  • - 2022 Timberwolf Award recipient (highest sport award at Clovis East)
  • - 1st team All TRAC Conference (Junior & Senior seasons)
  • - 2022 Broke school season goal record with team high 126 goals (previous season season record, 92 goals)
  • - 2021 Scored team high 78 goals (Junior)

I am a firm believer in playing as a team and not just about one person. I am very competitive and want to win, but I also want myself and my teammates to continue to get better every practice and game. Being a quick learner has been key to my success. I listen before speaking to show my coaches I am serious and want to learn. Being a Captain, the past couple of seasons has allowed me to mentor the younger and the new players to the varsity team. I was able to be a leader and provide examples on how we want to be successful as an individual and as a team.

During the offseason I continue to work on my game by competing with the top 18u Royal 559 Water Polo Club here in Fresno, CA. This will be my third season with this club. Prior to this, I was competing with Bulldog Water Polo Club and Timberwolf Water Polo Club, both here in Fresno, CA. Being able to join Royal 559 has allowed me to compete at a higher level to increase my skill set and play the top competition and players throughout the state and nation.

I not only work hard in the pool, but also in school with my current unweighted GPA at 3.21. I am looking forward to an opportunity to not only earn but work hard keep a scholarship to continue my education at the next level. I want to play for a team that has a great team atmosphere, coaching staff that wants their players to succeed, and one that I can come in and compete with at the highest level.

I look forward to being able to introduce myself in person or by phone to you and your program. I'd love to have a discussion about my athletic and academic background, what I can bring to your program starting in 2023, while also learning more about your school and the team needs.

Kind regards,

Emma Vertiz
