My name is Ava Albertson. I am a junior at El Segundo High School. I hold myself to high standards and strive to achieve academically. I have above a 100+ in all of my classes and currently have a 4.57GPA. This year I am be taking four AP classes and two business pathway courses. I will complete the four year business program in three years. I have worked closely with my high school councilor who believes in my ability and has always pushed me to reach for the stars. I aspire to study business as an undergrad and then go on to receive my law degree. I take school very seriously, but I also make time for sports, clubs, volunteering and friends. I am very outgoing and have many friends. I love to meet new people and seek out opportunities to help others. I am outspoken and stand up for what is right, but I do it in an appropriate way. My outgoing personality, public speaking skills and social mindedness will serve me well in law school.
I am a three sport high school varsity athlete. I have been swimming competitively since I was six years old and I always thought I would swim in college. I swam for Alpha Aquatics in El Segundo, CA and trained at the highest level. Although, I had always wanted to try water polo, my swimming commitment prevented me from playing. My Sophomore year I decided to step back from swimming and give water polo a try with the blessing of my Club Coach, Scott Hubbard. Water polo was a game changer for me. I love the game and have never looked back. I currently play for Trojan Water Polo Club with coach Nila Ward. My U16 team won the Bronze division of Junior Olympics last summer. I am doing everything I can to improve my water polo skills. I have attended camps at Cal, CSULB, SDSU, and USC. I am participated in the Fall ODP camps for the USA Water Polo Costal Zone. My swimming background has helped me become the sprinter for both my club and high school team. It has also enabled me to pick up the game quickly and my speed gives me an advantage on both offense and defense. This year I was named as one of the players who made the All League team. I also made the leader board for most sprints won in a season. This club season I am playing 16U and 18U and am starting for both teams. In addition to swim and water polo I am also a competitive high school surfer, I am an accomplished ocean swimmer and paddle board racer. The water is where I feel most at home.
I am eager to continue to grow in the sport of water polo and aspire to play in college.
