I want to thank you for this opportunity to tell you a little about me. I go by the nickname “Mighty Miah” because others see me as someone that gives that little extra effort or fight. I cherish that nickname because it exemplifies how sports should be played, and, more importantly, how life should be lived. My parents taught me from when I was very young that I should not do something if I can’t do it with everything that I have (plus some). That is how I approach everything that I do. I may not be gifted with height, but what I don’t have in height I make up for with effort. On my team I am one of the shortest girls starting, but I am the first they put in hole guard to guard the toughest on the other team. Size only matters when the fight within is just as large. In my case, I have fight to spare.
I love water polo because it is a team sport with periods of fierce individual battles. It is the best of both worlds. I love the challenge and I love the fight. It makes me feel good that I am helping my team achieve a goal, winning. I want to continue helping people throughout my life as a nurse. After water polo, I will be helping a patient fight to regain their health with the same extra effort that I provide to my team. Water polo has been great because it teaches you about yourself. You are not only battling the girl in front of you, you are battling within yourself to get that little extra effort that you never thought you had. If given the opportunity to play for you, I can never guaranty any result, but what I can guaranty is that I will give you everything that I have (plus some).
