Sadie Smith '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Sadie Smith and I am a student athlete attending St. Lucy’s Priory High School located in Glendora, CA. Since I was very young, I have known that I wanted to compete in water polo, and possibly swimming, at the collegiate level. At 7 years old I started swimming for Mt. Baldy Aquatics. At age 9, I joined  Foothill Club Water Polo and have been playing there since. With my club team, I have had the honor to compete in Junior Olympics a total of five times. 

High School water polo has truly been an exciting experience because of the memorable wins and moments with my team. My freshmen year, I debuted as a Varsity starter and my game play has matured immensely. During my first year there as a player, we made it to the second round of Division 3 CIFSS tournament. Additionally, I went to Division 2 CIFSS swim championships. 

One of the most memorable moments of my sophomore season at St. Lucy's was winning the 2020 Baseline league Championship game. We snapped our opponents ten year winning streak. That season, we made it to Division 3 CIFSS quarter finals where we were defeated by the division championship winners. Participating in those events have helped me learn the true values of teamwork and determination.

Like athletics, academics are also a huge part of my life. I am a hard-working and dedicated student in all my classes and will always take the extra step to put more effort, improve, and learn. Going to an all girls, catholic, college preparatory school, I take challenging courses and get high grades. I have also learned the importance of leadership and sisterhood at my school participating in class office as treasurer and playing cello in Sisters in Song.

During the times of COVID-19, I have continued practicing instruments and staying in great shape by swimming, running, and strength training. I was lucky enough this past season in 2021 to play 9 games and scored 30 goals in this short season. I am very excited to continue summer training with club and high school in order to prepare for upcoming games!
