I am excited to have the opportunity to play water polo in college. Once I started water polo, I fell in love with the sport. From the beginning to now and in the future, I have and will always strive to make myself the best player I can possibly be. I am a player that if a coach says, “this needs to be done,” I will give my all to try to make it happen. I am constantly trying to learn more about the sport by practicing with both my club team and high school team.
I am one to always try my hardest in anything and it shows through water polo and school. Water polo has given me multiple opportunities that a normal teenager does not get to experience. During my freshman year, my club team gave the older girls the opportunity to travel to Italy to play water polo against the Italian national team. I was the youngest girl on the trip due to it only being offered to the 18 and under girls, yet I was offered the experience as a 16 and under. Traveling with my team revealed different coaching styles and plays. This is something I also want to do during college so I truly understand every detail about the sport that I love. Also, in my freshman year of high school, I was awarded 1st Team All-Baseline League as well as being the only player from Rancho Cucamonga High Girls Water Polo to make an All-CIF team, and awarded 3rd team.
During my sophomore year, I was recognized as one of three sophomores at Los Osos High to play in our CIF Championship game. I was able to adapt to all the adversity during the game. For example, one of our seniors and our starting guard were majored, so I had to assume a major role. I was put into a position I rarely play, due to the starter at that position being majored. I was fortunate to be the only player to score in 3rd quarter, despite not playing my own position. Without the support of my team and my immediate adaptation to that position, we may not have won CIF for Division 3. For my efforts, I was awarded Scholar Athlete, 2nd Team All-Baseline League and 2nd Team All-CIF.
Academics also play a major part of my life, in addition to water polo. I always to try push myself to learn as much as the subject and the teacher have to offer. In mathematics, I have always been at an advanced level and placed with the grade level above mine. During my freshman year I was in Honors Algebra, in sophomore year I was in Honors Pre-Calculus, in my junior year, AP Calculus. During my senior year, I will be taking AP Statistics. Not only did I take higher math classes, but during my freshman and sophomore year I also had Honors English 1 and 2. During my junior year I took AP US History and AP Language and Composition. I will be taking AP Economy and Government and AP Literature during my senior year.
In the future, I want to be a leader on my team. I will be a player that gives a 100 percent at any task I am given. Playing water polo competitively in college will help me grow as a person and I am confident that I will learn to adapt to new coaching styles and as well as learning new plays. Not only will I be dedicated to my team and the sport but to my academics as well. As in the past, I will give my all in the pool and in the classroom.
