My love for water sports began when I was 6 years old when I started swimming for my local cabana team. It wasn’t long before my love for the water led me to swim year-round. With such a strong swimming background, transitioning to water polo my freshman year of high school came easily and I instantly fell in love with the sport.
My freshman year I was a starter on my junior varsity team, but also played all of the non-league games and tournaments with the varsity team. In the spring of my freshman year, I joined a local club team (San Jose Almaden) after the high school season ended and participated in Junior Olympics on a 16U team.
In my sophomore year, I started every game for varsity and helped my team qualify for the CIF/CCS playoffs for the first time in 8 years. At the end of the season, I was awarded the Blossom Valley Athletic League Sophomore of the Year and was nominated for Sophomore Athlete of the Year at my high school.
When high school season ended I continued to play with my club team and again participated in Junior Olympics as a member of the 16U team. I also had the opportunity to play in an open water tournament in Oregon, where we placed 2nd in the 18U division.
This Junior season, I was a varsity captain and helped lead my team to the CIF/CCS Division 1 playoff for the second year in a row. At the end of the season, I was awarded the Blossom Valley Athletic League Junior of the Year as well as making first-team all-league. I was also awarded the Varsity Girls Water Polo MVP and the Female Junior Athlete of the Year award at my high school.
While I continue to swim for both my high school and club team, the camaraderie and teamwork that comes with playing water polo are hard to duplicate.
I believe I have the necessary skills to compete at the college level. I am a strong student academically and understand the importance of dedication both in and out of the pool.
