My name is Ruthie Lax, I am a junior at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA. I have always had a passion for the water since swim lessons at a young age. My passion grew when I joined a club swim team 8 years ago and fell in love. As I matured and high school was approaching, I desired to play as part of a team and participate in less of an individual sport. My love of water and desire to be part of a team, led me to water polo in high school. Water polo training started two weeks before my 1st year of High School. The moment I got in the pool and started learning the game, I was hooked. I can still remember the first drill we did with the ball, throwing it through a pool noodle attached to the corner of the cage. Coach wanted to see our skills and how to further progress them while having a fun time. After my first season, I was awarded MVP of our team. I was surprised and proud of what I had accomplished in just my 1st season. Knowing I wouldn’t have a water polo season until the following school year, I pursued a club. Joining Stanford Water Polo Club that winter further confirmed my love for the game. As I played with new teammates and new coaches, my skills were heightened. I have always been a leader and motivator of others, being a part of the team and family is one of the main reasons I fell in love. Excited to return to my second season at school, I was moved up to Varsity and was a starter within the first week. Our team ended the season taking the title of 1st in our league. When the pandemic hit I was forced to take a step back and focus more on conditioning as we couldn’t be in the water. I am engaged in Crossfit and weight training with my teammates. I am also conditioning with Stanford Club Polo. Recently we were allowed back in the water with Stanford and it has been amazing.
My passion and love drive my game. I am fully committed to water polo and I feel I am an asset to the team. I am a set/ hole as well as a utility, I play to be a part of a team and fuel my love of the game, my love of water.
