Maryn King '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is Maryn King and I am currently a junior at Rockwall-Heath High School in Rockwall, Texas. Growing up, my mom thought I would become a dancer or a gymnast, but after taking gymnastics for a year and never mastering the cartwheel, it was abundantly clear that I was destined for something else. I’ve always been comfortable in the water and was excited when, five years ago, my cousin suggested that we attend a splash ball clinic at the local natatorium. I knew very little about water polo, but after that clinic, I was hooked! 

Playing water polo at the high school level has allowed me to take on a leadership role. The majority of my teammates started as swimmers and watching them learn to love this sport as much as I do has been truly incredible. Being a part of an underdog team, who worked together to advance to the state regional championships, has been the highlight of my high school years so far. By participating in water polo, I have become a better teammate, better person, and better communicator ALL while enjoying being a teenager. 

Playing water polo at the club level has challenged me both physically and mentally. I’ve been coached by many experienced coaches, played with many talented players, and competed against some powerful teams from all over the United States. All of these motivated me to push myself beyond what I knew I was capable of doing. 

Academically, I am looking for a program that will challenge me within and beyond the classroom and allow me to succeed in all areas of my life. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.

Outside of the pool and classrooms, I enjoy MIG welding, tinkering with small engines, and lifting weights. My absolute bucket list dream is to obtain and restore a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT!
