When I think about college all I see is me on the wrestling mat, with fans cheering in the stands for our team. When I was younger I would have laughed if someone told me I would want to wrestle in college. I had the same mindset as everyone else, that wrestling is only for boys. I want to inspire young girls that you don't have to be a man to be strong, athletic, and independent. Ever since I was in middle school I knew that I wanted to study psychology. With all the stuff I went through when I was younger I want to be that person that I needed when I was little. Wrestling helped me win my battle with depression, and continues to be an outlet for all of my negative emotions. I truly feel at home when I'm on the mat and it makes me feel apart of a family. It has taught me an amazing work and team work ethic. It taught me that you can't do anything alone but you still need to put the work in. No one else is going to get you where you need to be. But while being independent it is necessary to also let people in and let them help you along your journey. My coach Brian has taught me most of that, he taught me that if you want something you need to push yourself to earn it, because nothing in this world comes free. My whole life I have been pushed by my mother to succeed academically, but she never thought that I would do well in athletics. By becoming a wrestler in college I will prove to her and everyone else that I can do anything I put my mind to. I will be a first generation graduate and the only person in my family to go to college. My biggest goal is to set an example for my siblings and younger cousins.
