I joined wrestling in 8th grade in Nebraska, I joined because I wanted something to do in my downtime. Wrestling at that time there weren't a lot of girls so I had to wrestle the boys during tournaments and I lost every single match, I wasn't even close to winning matches during that season. And then my freshman year came, in Nebraska it was getting bigger and girls had their everything, had their tournaments, duals, etc. I only won 2 matches and I lost 15 matches and that was so hard because I felt I wasn't getting better. Everyone was beating me and I just felt like I would never get to where I wanted to be. Wrestling in Nebraska was a rough time, I wanted to quit, but I didn’t. I then moved to Colorado. It was my sophomore year, I joined wrestling again it was different, my coaches, the people, and the people at the tournaments. I went 15-16 my sophomore year, I was winning and it felt great. I was also losing but losing didn't seem that bad because I was learning from my mistakes. I set a goal for myself after my sophomore season, and it was to make it to state. My junior season came around so quickly. I was 25-18 but I made it to state. After wanting to give up on myself and wanting to quit wrestling, I pushed through all of that. I achieved the one goal, I set for myself. I was proud of myself for something that I worked so hard. At state, it was such a surreal experience. I lost my 2 matches but I proved to myself that I can be better than what I see myself. As I kept wrestling, me and my parents decided to sign me up for the 2024 US Marine Corps Junior & 16U Nationals. I spent most of my summer practicing for this tournament. The tournament came so quickly, I wrestled ok. It wasn't the best I've ever wrestled but I didn't wrestle terribly. I know I belonged there. Wrestling has taught me to never give up on something you want to achieve or start even if you are terrible. If you put in the work and just have the right mindset you can achieve anything. I want to continue wrestling in college after high school. I love wrestling and I enjoy pushing myself to be the best version of myself. I feel wrestling has taught me how to be a good person and how to be determined.
