I can truly say that the sport of wrestling has changed my life. Before stepping on that mat for the first time I'd never really felt like I belonged anywhere, I'd done some sports but always been too afraid to compete, I'd had friends but never really felt a part of the group. But when I went to my first day of practice in 8th grade I realized I had family that would always have my back and become my best friends. This sport has taught me so much discipline to work my best even on the hard days, respect for everybody I encounter, and a work ethic to never ever give up and push beyond my limits. I've seen wrestling transform me from a girl who never wanted to go outside her comfort zone, was shy in public and out of shape, to someone who loves hard work, has self respect and will push past my limits to accomplish my goals.
Wrestling in college is a dream of mine because as much as I love and appreciate my high school wrestling career, I feel as if I haven't reached my full potential. I haven't been wrestling for as long as others, but ever since my first practice I knew this sport would forever hold a part of my heart. I can't wait to see how the collegiate level of wrestling transforms me and teaches me more. I know that college wrestling is a level of wrestling that I've never experienced. I'm ready and willing to put in everything I have and become a better person through this experience.
