I have always admired my family members for always reminding me that I can do anything I put my mind to. They don't have to remind me all the time but they do and it doesn't feel like their being push overs about it. But that they really care and want to see me succeed in my aspirations. Now I don't have many family members who are college graduates but their faith and hope in me motivates me to continue learning. Majoring in Fire Science and working towards the Premedical program I found that both of these majors can not only fulfill my need to continuously learn but it also has many of my interests as well. If you ask my family about what they think of me or what kind of career they see me in the top three answers will either be a doctor, police officer, or a firefighter. My passion of healing and protecting others is so strong that I have always seen myself in those careers. Based off of the foundation that is needed in these careers is tied together with wrestling and how I was raised.
Throughout my childhood and teenage years compassion, humility, hard work, and discipline has been and will always be the foundation of myself, wrestling has only magnified and shown me how these virtues pay off. I started wrestling my freshman year at Kapaa High School and I can say without a shred of doubt it is the best thing that has happened to me. Wrestling not only motivated me to be healthier but it's given me self- confidence, knowing and preaching that women's wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the nation is something that I never thought would be comforting to know that it's such a growing sport. Wrestling is what I was born for, I can't imagine myself in the future without it. Being a part of my high school team I've been told that my team mates feel cared for when their cutting weight or when they get frustrated while drilling. My team mates are my family and that same love and compassion is something that I will bring to any team that will accept me.
The way I apply myself in wrestling is the same way I apply myself in my academics. I know that besides from my athletics my academics will carry me throughout my life and I know that without it I will fail. Academics is what every athlete needs, it shows that they are capable of not only obtaining the knowledge in their sport but that they have a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset is what carried me throughout my high school experience and it will continue to carry me in all that I do.
