I am Abigail Kats. I am going to be a junior at Western Christian High School in NW Iowa. My deep love for wrestling started when I was in 8th grade. My dad is the youth wrestling coach and the girls wrestling coach at my school and he always encouraged me to try wrestling. The first time I stepped on the mat I immediately fell in love with the sport. The first two years were rough for me but this past season (my sophomore year), I started to figure out my style and also the mentality I needed to succeed. I believe that having a good mentality is one of the most important things in sports and hope to one day become a sports psychologist.
I’m a three sport athlete in wrestling, soccer, and softball. I have been the varsity goalkeeper for soccer since my freshman year and I sat varsity for softball my 8th grade and freshman years and had the varsity centerfield spot secured for this year but unfortunately had to sit out this season because of a shoulder injury. I am very competitive and a hard worker. I’m hungry to get better and I have a lot of drive. I understand how important conditioning is and always try to be in the best shape as possible. I love hearing feedback from coaches about what to do better and how to improve. I learn best when I hear feedback and will take it from anyone. I’m a very offensive wrestler and like to be the first one to shoot or get a takedown. I also work hard in school and care about my grades.
I recently had shoulder surgery on my labrum. An injury like this has taught me a lot of things such as resilience. I’m recovering fast and I’m beyond ready for this next wrestling season.
