Hi, my name is Sophie Cobb. I am a 14 year old wrestler in the class of 2027, I started wrestling around a few weeks into the wrestling season in my freshman year when I was 13. I truly fell in love with the sport in seconds, the feeling I would get during practice, the way the pins had felt, the amount of joy and happiness I would feel wrestling. When I started I just knew I would never stop. I started off freshman year with no experience and my team constantly irritated because I didnt know what to do, I ended up going home every night practicing by myself for hours to get better. To be able to feel the joy I felt while I wrestled. As I wrestled I was 160 and 5'3 in the 170 weight class usually paired up against tall muscular guys or girls so I had to teach myself their weaknesses understand what people of certain builds would do. Now while I was on the Calvert High team I didn't necessarily get the help I needed, I constantly felt like I was losing my spark, I placed 4th at regional's and was an alternate for states. That's when I decided that I would go somewhere where the coaches would really nurture my "talent". With my new team I placed second at MAWA regionals and 5th in the national tournament, my new team really understood how to teach me and was a place where I wouldn't be punished for being myself while wrestling. I am now a 2x All American at 14 years old and have 19 wins in total 16 of those being pins.
