Hi,
I am involved in multiple sports in school as well as outside of school. I actively train in martial arts of Hapkido and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu outside of school. I started training Hapkido when I was 11 and currently hold a 3rd degree black belt in the Art of Hapkido. Training Hapkido has helped me learn and grow in many areas such as self-control, what being a good partner for training is, having a positive mental attitude, building leadership skills for instructing new teammates as well as understanding how to instruct others who learn in different ways others might learn. Some of us are kinetic learners who prefer hands on step-by-step instructions whereas others might learn by simply viewing a technique as in akinetic learning. After a few years of training Hapkido I wanted to broaden my areas of martial arts, so I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a second art. Jiu Jitsu has helped me with my grappling skills to become more comfortable on the mat in areas such as learning how to control my breathing as well as trying to think 4 to 5 steps ahead of things in the middle of a match. I then started wrestling my freshman year of high school. I was excited to join a team with wonderful grappling teammates and coaches who welcomed me as a new wrestler. I will admit that first couple weeks of wrestling practice was rough, even with my regular exercising in Hapkido and Jiu Jitsu classes. After previous years of Martial arts training, I was able to feel more at ease during my first years of wrestling. I have since enjoyed 3 years on the high school wrestling team and can't wait for this year's season as my senior year. After high school I will be eager to expand my wrestling skills in college and help my team.
Other areas of study I am currently active in are Music and Art. I am currently in my 7th year as a Percussionist as well as section leader for my Front Ensemble percussions group. Outside of school I play the Ukulele as well as various multiple percussion instruments ranging from Snare drum, Bells, 4 mallet Marimba, Bongos, Glockenspiel, Timpani, and many more. Art is another area I am extremely passionate about. I have been drawing and painting in various styles since I was very young. I have enjoyed high school classes such as Graphic Design, Fabrics, Ceramics, as well as Art Fundamentals. Fundamentals are the basis of each new area we study or train and something we can always use to refocus when needed. As an Artist I have entered local art contests at our city Library. I am interested in expanding my artistic knowledge in college and to share my skills in becoming an educator in Arts.
I believe that I am a hard worker, proactive, loyal, and dependable. This is not just in sports but the same as in everyday life. Attendance is vital as I have numerous years of school with 100% attendance. Effort is something I am known for, and my belief in giving 150% rests high on my priorities. This includes not just every day in life but also in the classroom, on the mats, and as a future recruit.
Thank you for your time,
Lillie
