Personal Statement

Hello coaches and athletic recruiters, I am Summer and I have been wrestling for 10 years, have a 3.80 GPA, am 1.5 credits ahead, and am looking for a school with a biology, pre-vet program, as well as a coach who is vocal who will support me win, lose, or draw. I need a coach who pushes me to be the best I can be.

Why I am a good candidate for your team:

One thing that I am known for and excel at is my tenacity and determination. Even though I was injured my 7th grade year, I still went to all the practices and cheered on my team. In 8th grade I transferred from a larger school to a smaller one without a wrestling program, so I travelled every day for practice. Although we moved this summer, I still go to the smaller school. I am fortunate enough to have supportive parents which allow me to travel not only to practice but to meets both in and out of the state. I travel 17 miles to attend school because of the rural nature of my school.

Academics:

I have a 3.80 GPA. Right now I know I want to do something with animals, and I am thinking about working towards becoming a veterinarian. I also want to work with K9 search and rescue.  I finished my second full year of French, and I have a semester of German. This year I am taking advanced anatomy at my new school and looking at probably getting a 4.0 at the semester.

My Wrestling Experience:

I moved schools before my Junior year, and so far this year has been great. The school brought back the wrestling program, my mother is one of my head coaches, and I am 9-2 on the year.  One of those losses I beat the opponent in the final round.

My freshman year was also weird in that it was in the spring/summer, shortened because of other sports, and there wasn't the time to practice to get back into it. I did go 4-3 going into districts which in Oregon are divided into North and South. At districts I beat my first opponent and then lost to two upper classmen. I felt for a freshman year that had been marred by issues academically as well as athletically and personally stemming from COVID, I did well.  This sophomore year has been different, so far I am 4-3 but a lot of our tournaments have been cancelled due to COVID.  While my HS season is going to be short, I am planning on expanding greatly into the freestyle side, with tournaments in Reno, Colorado Springs, and South Dakota on the horizon.

So far this year as part of Team Oregon I received 7th at Folkstyle Nationals and 5th at Western Regionals - Greco.

I started in mat club where I did well but I was young and not dedicated, but I stuck with it.  When Middle School started, I joined the middle school team, missing out on State my 6th grade year because I was ill, 7th grade year because I had a knee injury, and then 8th grade because of COVID. With my 11-0 record against other girls, I was amped to get to state and likely place if not win, but COVID started the week before state and so it was cancelled. I had also planned on attending large tournaments as well as two camps, but those were cancelled.
