I have been wrestling for the last six years. I started when I was a 7th Grader at North Jefferson Middle School in Kimberly, Alabama. I have just completed my senior year of wrestling at Mortimer Jordan High School in Kimberly, Alabama. My 9th through 11th grade years, I was on B Team and asked to wrestle in multiple weight classes based on what was best for the team at each match. Wrestling in multiple weight classes allowed me to challenge myself physically and mentally. During my 11th grade year I asked to wrestle up in order to attend sectionals. I wrestled in the 182 pound weight class although I only weighted 166 pounds. I surprised myself and my coach by placing 6th in the 1-5A North AHSAA Sectionals Tournament and qualifying for the AHSAA State Championship. Although I did not end up placing at the AHSAA State Championship it did help me realize that with hard work, dedication, and training I could compete with others in my weight class. After my match with one of the wrestlers that went on to place in the tournament my coach was told that I made his wrestler nervous by how well I handled myself during the match. My coach explained that I had put in a lot of hard work to wrestle in a weight class so far above my actual weight and be successful. I left the tournament with a desire to have the best wrestling season ever. I immediately started off season training where I had the opportunity to wrestle in matches throughout the summer and early fall. Our wrestling club competed against clubs from multiple states across the USA. When I entered my senior year I immediately earned a spot as a starter at the 170 lbs weight class. This season my record was 55 wins, 8 loses, and 31 pins. This season our school wrestled in multiple dual matches and I was ranked 1st in the state for several weeks. During the regular
tournaments I placed in the top 3 in everyone. Leading up to AHSAA North Sectionals I placed 1st in our Jefferson County Tournament. At AHSAA North Sectionals I was seeded 4th and I ended up placing 2nd.
In the AHSAA State Championship I was seeded 13th and I ended up placing 2nd. At this time, I feel that my wrestling career is just beginning to take off. I feel that I have the dedication, drive, and ability to mature into a well rounded wrestler. I am a very teachable wrestler who loves to learn new moves, review video, and self reflect on how I can improve from one match to the next. My high school coach was very hands
on and active in his coaching, which was very beneficial for my learning style. My personality on and off the mat reflects my moral character, which drives my decision making skills. For the reasons listed above I feel that I can be an asset to your wrestling team. Thank you for taking the time to review my information. Tyler
