Hi coaches, my name is Trevor Leon Jr., and I would like to share with you my personal statement. Growing up as a kid it was hard with having abusive parents. My dad was an alcoholic, and my mom was a drug addict. Due to this I had to move from home to home which caused me to not really ever having a handle on my grades.
My ultimate goal was not end up like my parents, so once I had started living with my great grandparents back in 2018, I thought I finally had stable foundation to start taking school seriously and start to make good grades. Sadly 3 months after my sister and I moved in, my great grandfather passed and then my grandmother became so sick we were going to have to be moved again. Fortunately, my aunt and uncle were able to move in and eventually gain guardianship of me and my sister. And honestly, I could not be prouder of saying that they are my guardians because they treat me so well.
With a stable foundation finally, I was able focus on school and actually join football and wrestling my freshman year of high school. By my sophomore and junior year, my grades started to go the way we wanted them to go. I started getting GPA’s that were between 2.9-3.8 and doing so well in wrestling despite the pandemic. When it came to wrestling, I did not mess around I took it very seriously to the point where if my partner was messing around too much, I would grab a new partner. I was able to out wrestle all of my partners in my weight class of 220, so now the next step was to only wrestle my coaches. I currently have a young coach who qualified for state, sparing him has made me a better wrestler day in and day out.
In my perseverance, I was able to win the Citrus Belt League as an underdog in the 220lb weight class and become all CIF as a non-seeded wrestler. I was only one match away from masters. I also received the Most Improved Wrestler Award which means I pushed and become better and better each day no matter what. Throughout the season I wrestled with bronchitis, and I have wrestled with my shoulder popping out and popping it back it to go wrestle.
I have been so committed to wrestling, that I am continuing to train in the off season, compete in off season tournaments on the weekends and assisting to coach middle school wrestlers 3 times a week.
Wrestling is my life and if you choose me, I will work harder than anything you have ever seen before. Thank you for taking time to read my statement and profile and I look forward to learning about your school and wrestling program.
