Hello my name is Troy Ceja and I am a Junior at John H. Pitman High School in Turlock, California. My planned high school graduation date is June of 2026. I have competed in wrestling since I was 4 years old when my dad placed me in a wrestling room with the Turlock Wrestling Club. I struggled to learn the sport at first, but enjoyed participating. When I turned 10 years old I competed in a state tournament and was able to win that tournament. I would say that is when wrestling started clicking for me. So, as my dad says, “My resilience paid off!” I have earned many awards related to wrestling since turning 10.
In December of 2020 I began working with Vasky Brothers Wrestling Club and continue competing for them at the club level. During my freshman year I competed in the 285 pound weight class for Pitman's Varsity Wrestling Team. I won three tournaments and was named outstanding upper division wrestler at the Ceres Invitational. During my club season I placed first at California USA Folkstyle state in the Cadet division. I placed first at the California USA Freestyle state in the Cadet division and second in the Junior division. I placed second in the Cadet division at California USA State in Greco-Roman Style and third in the Junior division. Additionally, I placed third at the Reno Worlds U-15 tournament.
During my sophomore year I again placed 1st at several tournaments and qualified for state by placing 2nd in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling tournament. I qualified for the California Fargo National Team. Again, placing 1st at The California Cadet State Freestyle and Greco/Roman Tournament. Due to an injury I was not able to compete at Fargo. During the offseason I also placed 3rd at the NHSCA Virginia Beach National Sophomore Level Tournament. I also represented Team California at the Cadet National Dual Tournament in June.
In addition to wrestling, I also play football. I was named the Freshman Team Captain during the 2022 season. I was moved to the varistiy football team as a sophomore where I started at left tackle. Prior to focusing on wrestling and football I participated in soccer, basketball, golf, baseball, and gymnastics.
I try to be a well rounded individual and completed my first four semesters at Pitman High School with a 4.05 Grade Point Average. I also was recognized with the Athlete of the Month Award for the month of August 2022, and David Walls Pitman High School Athlete of the year for the school year 2023-2024. I am described as being friendly and willing to include and help others. This has really been evident in the work I do coaching our youth program. I am also active in Boy Scouts as a member of Troop 451 in Turlock. I recently ranked up to Life Rank the final rank before reaching my goal of Eagle Scout. My goal is to complete my Eagle Scout prior to finishing high school. I am also a member of All Saints Catholic University Parish and am active with the Parish's Squires Club. As a member of the Boy Scouts and Squires I participate in several community service activities including the annual Turlock Together food drive and distrubution, feeding the homeless at a local shelter known as We Care, and assisting with ushering at church. I also enjoy weight lifting and traveling with my family. Recently I was recruited to the Pitman Athletic Leadership Council.
